DRAFT / LEGAL REVIEW REQUIRED
Draft for human legal review before public registration. This page is not legal advice and does not invent a company address, legal entity, or regulator registration. Confirm the controller identity, vendor terms, and retention with qualified UK advice before launch.
01Who we are
DoppelUp is operated as a small UK-first consumer experiment. The legal controller’s registered name and address will be published here after they are confirmed. Until that review, do not treat this draft as the final notice.
02What we collect
- Email address, display name, a password hash, age confirmation, and email verification.
- Invitation relationships, an optional familiarity category, and leaderboard preferences.
- Game messages, decisions, scores, and technical metadata such as delivery and security logs.
- Credit ledger entries and Stripe payment references. We do not store full card numbers.
- Reports you send us.
03Why
To run the game, keep accounts and credits accurate, prevent abuse, and understand whether the experiment is working. The lawful bases to rely on, including contract and legitimate interests, need to be confirmed in the legal review. Age confirmation is required because public registration is 18+.
04Processors
- Postmark sends and receives email.
- OpenAI generates counterfeit messages and judges whether a human message stayed on topic. Their handling of API data is their own, and it is not the same thing as our storage policy. Check the API terms that apply to the account we use.
- Stripe takes payment.
Where those providers process data outside the UK, the transfer mechanism has to match the contracts we actually sign. This draft does not pretend that review has happened.
05What we don’t do
We don’t train a custom model on player conversations, build cross-game personality profiles, sell messages, import address books, or build advertising profiles. The AI sees the current game and the public rules.
06Retention
- Messages in an active game stay while it is active.
- Completed message bodies are deleted or anonymised after 90 days unless a report or legal obligation is still open.
- Aggregate statistics may be kept longer, without the conversation.
- Account data stays until you delete the account, apart from records we have to keep.
- Financial records follow the statutory period that applies once the entity is confirmed.
- Mail already delivered to someone’s inbox cannot be recalled.
07Your choices
You can stop a game, turn reminders off, opt out of the public leaderboard, ask for a copy of your data, and request deletion. Deletion anonymises your account and your message text in shared games. It cannot pull a copy out of another person’s mailbox.
08Automated decisions
The topic judge and the counterfeit generator are automated. They affect the score of a game, not your legal rights, credit, or access to an essential service. A human can review a game if you report a problem.
09Complaints
Write to support@doppelup.com. You can also complain to the ICO. This draft does not state a registration number we do not have.
