Why we built this

We built DoppelUp because we thought it sounded like a fun game — the kind we'd want to play with our own friends. We also wondered whether an AI could convince you it was someone you know, and whether that tells us anything interesting about being human.

We didn't build this to harvest email addresses, snoop on private conversations or sell personal information. But the game does work by processing emails: our systems and AI provider need to read game messages, and authorised administrators may access them for safety and troubleshooting. Conversations are not continuously reviewed by humans. Please don't share sensitive or confidential information. Read our Privacy Policy and How It Works pages before playing.

That is the whole motive. It is a game and a curiosity, not a scientific trial, a security-training product, or a social network. A small self-selected beta cannot prove anything grand about people or machines. If the numbers are interesting, they are descriptive.
